Smart Cities and Green IT
April 28, 2011.
The world has witnessed an unprecedented wave of urbanization in recent years, and
the urban population has, for the first time in history, exceeded the rural population.
Consequently, more and more information needs to be handled in an unprecedentedly
complicated environment for the government to make agile, accurate, and smart decisions
on the management and operation of cities.
The event was conducted jointly by the Smart+Connected Communities Institute (SCCI),
UN Habitat, Metropolis, and Chengdu Municipality. With a theme on "Smart City &
Green IT", it helped promote learning and innovation in smart technologies; demonstrate
the significance of ICT for urban planning, construction and development; bridge
knowledge and skill gaps that exist between senior city leaders and planners, architects,
and developers; share the best practice in sustainability and urban development
worldwide; and facilitate dialogue and collaboration among different cities.
