The Fundamentals of U.S. Export Control Compliance
-- Understanding Its Impact on China Business
July 18, 2012.

The U.S. export control regime regulates not only the tangible products of U.S. origin but also the intangible technologies and software. Moreover, foreign made items containing more than the de minimis amount of U.S. components and foreign made items that are the "direct products" of certain U.S. origin technical data or software are also covered by the regime.

As China builds up its scientific and technological capacity, the production and trade in technology-intensive goods has witnessed a rapid growth. Therefore, understanding U.S. export control regulations and their impact on business practice in China has become unprecedentedly important for multinationals' Chinese subsidiaries and indigenous Chinese enterprises as well.

The seminar talked about the fundamentals of U.S. export control regime, including its history, legal framework, regulatory bodies, and critical terms. With real cases study, it helped the participants visualize the potential risks and provided them with useful tools and tips regarding how to achieve better compliance performance in daily practice.

More than 30 compliance/legal managers from manufacturers, importers, and professional services joined the discussion.
